Akij Footwear MD Sheikh Momin Uddin dies of Covid-19

Sheikh Momin Uddin, the second son of Akij Group’s founder late Sheikh Akij Uddin, has died after coronavirus infection at Ad-Din Hospital in the capital this evening. He was 63.
Sheikh Momin was the managing director of Akij Footwear and SAF Leather Industries Ltd.
Sheikh Momin passed away at 5:30pm while undergoing treatment at the intensive care unit of the hospital, said his younger brother SK Shamim Uddin, also a corporate director of Akij Group.
He was admitted to Ad-Din Hospital in Dhaka’s
Moghbazar on August 14 with coronavirus symptoms and later tested positive for the virus, said Md Abu Sayed Molla, assistant general manager of the hospital.
Sheikh Momin tested negative for Covid-19 on August 22, but his condition deteriorated yesterday and he was shifted to the ICU, the AGM said.
His first namaz-e-janaza was held at the premises of Ad-Din Hospital. His second janaza will be held at the ASF Jam-e Mosque, Nowapara, Jashore and the next janaza will be held at the Bezerdanga house in Jashore, family sources said.
He will be buried beside the grave of Akij Uddin.
Sheikh Afiluddin, lawmaker of Jashore-1 and younger brother of the deceased, confirmed the developments.
Sheikh Momin Uddin took charge of the SAF leather factory in a remote area in Jashore and modernised the factory and turned it into one of the largest leather factories in the country.
