The loading- unloading labourers of the principal wholesale market of Khatungonj in the port city staged demonstration yesterday for arresting a labourer for alleged robbery incident by police.
The workers of the principal business hub suspended their work from morning to 2 pm yesterday following the assurances of business leaders and police administration.
Kotwali thana second officer Moinuddin told that one wholesale trader AbdulMannan lodged a stealing case before the police accusing the labour Shahabuddin(40) and hence police arrested him.
In protest of the arrest of labour Shahabuddin, the agitated labourers in the business hub staged demonstration in the area and demanded immediate release of the worker.
Sensing the news of demonstration, police force rushed to the business hub and hold meeting with the Khatungonj Traders Association, local councilor, labour leaders and assures the labourers to release the detained Shahabuddin after court formalities.
The detained labour was sent to court custody , sources said.
