Afghanistan arrive to participate in Asian Men’s Volleyball

Afghanistan became the first foreign team to arrive in the capital to participate in the eight-nation DBBL Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship 2015 beginning on Saturday (May 23) at the Shaheed Suhrawardy National Indoor Stadium in Mirpur.
Eight countries–Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Maldives, Nepal, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan–will take part in the country’s first-ever international volleyball meet of its kind to be held May 23-28.
An 18-member Afghanistan national volleyball team reached the Hazrat Shahjajal International Airport in Dhaka on Monday morning.
Kyrgyzstan team are expected to reach the capital on Wednesday (May 20), followed by Turkmenistan on Thursday (May 21), Nepal and Uzbekistan on Friday (May 22).
The Maldives and Tajikistan are yet to confirm their arrival schedule.
Executive Vice President of International Volleyball Federation Essa Hamzah will arrive here Saturday morning to attend the opening ceremony.
Earlier on May 4, the logo of the DBBL Asian Senior Men’s Central Zone Volleyball Championship’2015 was ceremonially unveiled at a function at Dutch-Bangla Auditorium of Bangladesh Olympic Association (BOA) here.
Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, who is also the Chairman of Tournament’s Organizing Committee graced the ceremony as chief guest and later he unveiled the logo of the eight-nation tournament through a gala magical show performed by magician Ali Raj.
Meanwhile, a strong 101-member Organizing Committee, headed by Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed, was formed for the smooth running of the tournament. Another 15 sub-committee was also formed for the meet.
