State Minister for Power, Energy and Mineral Resources Nasrul Hamid said the government will give priority to ensure reliable and affordable electricity for all during its new tenure. “We’ve achieved 94 percent accessibility, so now reliable and affordable power will be our main priority in the next five years,” he said this on Tuesday while exchanging New Year greetings with reporters at his ministry’s conference room here.
The state minister said the government will also conduct multi-client survey to know the availability of the mineral resources as the government has emphasised the efficient use of natural resources. He said the power and energy related technology is being transformed globally and that is why Bangladesh will go for it. “The power and energy sector needs around US$ 40 billion investment.” “We’ve found some loopholes in carrying out development activities and we’ve reviewed our power sector master plan. We’ve achieved tremendous success during my tenure,” Nasrul said.
He said the Indian government relaxed for giving power to Bangladesh. “Now it is necessary to bring energy and power pricing at affordable level.” Later, General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters’ Unity (DRU) Kabir Ahmed Khan along with DRU members greeted Nasrul Hamid for being reelected as a member of parliament.
