M M Jasim :
The advance sale of bus tickets kicked off in the capital on Monday morning to ease sufferings of homebound passengers to celebrate the Eid-ul-Fitr.
Hundreds of people thronged different bus counters and stood in queues since early morning to collect the advance bus tickets.
Despite a strenuous waiting for the whole day, many had to return home empty-handed, as some bus counters did not sell their whole lot of tickets on the first day.
Some complained that bus operators are charging extra money even almost double.
“I came to the Gabtoli bus terminal in the morning and found many already standing in line but failed to get a ticket,” said Kamrul Hasan, who hails from Kurigram.
Rayhanul Islam, a private university student, said that he came to the Gabtali bus counter to collect tickets for going to Chittagong but he didn’t get tickets as those were sold out by 1:00 pm.
However, some home-goers are happy to get the
advance tickets and expressed their satisfaction. “I forgot all my sufferings as soon as I got the tickets,” said Sabrina Jahan, a student of Eden Mohila College.
Vice-president of Bus-Truck Owners Association Ramesh Chandra Ghosh told The New Nation that the owners started to sell the advance tickets from 7:00am and did not get any complaint against the ticket managers.
“We cannot support any irregularities in distribution of Eid tickets. We will take stern action if any allegation is probed,” Ramesh said. He also informed that the home-goers will get bus tickets available for northern and southern parts of the country from Shyamoli, SR Paribahan and Hanif Paribahan at the Gabtali terminal.
On the other hand, though it was supposed to start the selling of advance bus tickets, most of the bus owners of Mohakhali bus stand did not start selling of the tickets. However, some of them sold tickets but there was no rush of the people for tickets at the station.
Eid-ul-Fitr is likely to be celebrated on July 6, subject to appearance of moon.
A large number of people along with their families are expected to leave Dhaka to celebrate Eid with their near and dear ones at district towns and village homes.
Bangladesh Road Transport Corporation (BRTC) will also start selling of advance Eid tickets from tomorrow (Wednesday).
