The Bangladesh Railway will begin selling of advance tickets from July 29 to ensure hassle-free journey for holidaymakers ahead of the Eid-ul-Azha.
Like Eid ul-Fitr, train tickets will be sold from five spots, including city’s Kamalapur station.
This was decided at a meeting held at Railway Bhaban on Thursday, an official told journalists after the meeting.
The sale will continue till August 2 at Dhaka’s Kamalapur and Chittagong railway stations. Each person will be able to buy a maximum of four tickets, said the official.
Advance train tickets sale will be sold from 9:00am to 4:00pm in every day.
According to railway sources, western region bound all intercity trains through Jamuna Bridge will be sold at Kamalapur Station, while all intercity train tickets for Chattogram and Noakhali bound to be sold at Airport Station, Mymensingh and Jamalpur bound tickets from Tejgaon Station, Netrokona bound Mohongonj and Haor Express from Banani Station and Sylhet and Kishorgonj bound tickets from Rail Bhaban in city’s Fulbaria area.
A total eight special trains will run centering the Eid journey. They are — Dewanganj Eid Special (1 pair): Dhaka-Dewanganj-Dhaka, Chandpur Eid Special (2 pair): Chattogram-Chandpur-Chattogram, Khulna Eid Special: Khulna-Dhaka-Khulna, Ishwardi Eid Special: Dhaka-Ishwardi-Dhaka, Lalmoni Eid Special: Lalmonirhat-Dhaka-Lalmonirhat, Sholakia Special-1: Bhairab Bazar-Kishoreganj-Bhairab Bazar, Sholakia Special-2: Mymensingh-Kishireganj-Mymensingh.
The railway authorities will also operate “Solakia Special” trains on Bhairab-Kishoreganj-Bhairab and Mymensingh-Kishoreganj-Mymensingh routes on the Eid day.
Some 140 additional coaches will be included with the existing 1,006 coaches and 18 additional locomotives will be added with the existing 202 locomotives during the Eid rush.
Around 80,000 people leave the capital through the Kamalapur Railway Station every day during the Eid rush, said the railway sources.
Adequate security measures will be taken to avoid black marketing of tickets and any subversive activities, said a railway official.
