According to a report of World Bank published in July 2017, traffic congestion and slow pace of vehicle movement in Dhaka roads cost 32 lakhs working hours. In last 10 years, the average speed of vehicle movement was reduced to 7 kilometers (km) per hour from 21 kms per hour.

Despite building several flyovers in Dhaka, people are still suffering from the problems of heavy traffic congestions and not receiving the benefits of building flyovers.
The number of roads in the Dhaka city had increased by five percent from the year 1995 to 2005. On the other hand, vehicle movement had increased by 134 percent and population increased by 50 percent.
