The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court on Thursday summoned Supreme Court lawyer Md Ashraful Islam, as he made a ‘contemptuous comment’ in his face-book post wherein he has also demanded the resignation of Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain.
He will have to appear in the Appellate Division and explain as to why a contempt of court proceeding should not be initiated

against him for posting a derogatory comment in his face-book wall.
He has been asked to appear in person at the Appellate Division (Court Room No. 1) on August 8 and to give an explanation. At the same time, the Supreme Court has asked him to refrain from the legal profession till that day.
The court directed the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) to remove the derogatory face-book post of lawyer Ashraful and to close all his face-book accounts.
A six-member bench of the Appellate Division headed by chief justice Syed Mahmud Hossain passed the order after holding hearing on the issue.
Earlier on the day Attorney General AM Amin Uddin brought the matter to the attention of the Appellate Division.
During the hearing, Justice Muhammad Imman Ali, a Senior Judge of the Appellate Division, said, “The face-book statement of lawyer Ashraful Islam is seriously derogatory. It has directly attacked the chief justice and the Supreme Court.”
Attorney General AM Amin Uddin said, “The Appellate Division has summoned the lawyer. He has to appear before the court on August 8 to explain his role over the face-book post.”
