Serious gas crisis strike different areas of the capital city sent the homemakers into deep troubles as they cannot cook daily meals in time.
Gandaria, Jurain, Dayagonj, Sayedabad, Jatrabari, Dhalpur, Wari, Lalbagh, Bakhsibazar, Jigatola, Dhanmondi, Mohammadpur and several parts of old Dhaka and Mirpur, Uttara and adjacent areas are suffering from gas crisis round the clock for past several days.
“In last several days, I used to bring cooked food from restaurants for gas crisis. Then, I have started to cook early in the morning the whole day meals for my family members. But it is hard to prepare whole day’s food before the dawn,” said Sharmeen Nayeem, a homemaker from Jurain area of the capital.
She requested for resolving the crisis soon. Mahiuddin Ahmed, a resident of old Dhaka’s Chawkbazar area, echoed the similar bitter experiences. He said that his family is suffering more in recent days due to severe gas crisis.
“My wife has to awake before the morning for cooking our whole day meals. If she fails to get up before dawn, she will not get chance to cook food on our burners, because, after 6:oo am, there is no possibility of getting gas on the burners,” he said.
Mahfuza Begum, a homemaker from Mirpur-10, said that she brought a gas cylinder as there is a baby boy in her family.
“Elderly one may be able to take food prepared before long time, but kids cannot do so. Kids are supposed to get warm food round the clock. But due the ongoing gas crisis, we become compelled to bring a gas cylinder to home but it is too expensive, but we have no second choice,” Mahfuza said. Several other mothers also expressed similar experiences saying the gas cylinder has become extra burden for their monthly expenses.
“Our earnings are limited, but expenses are none. In the meantime, buying cylinder gas created extra pressure on us. We don’t know, that when the crises would be solved,” said Mahiuddin Ahmed.
When contacted, Engineer Md. Haronur Rashid Mullah, Managing Director of the Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited told The New Nation on Thursday, “There is light crisis due to the winter time disorder. Meanwhile, a gas well has been disrupted. We are working with our utmost capacity to recover that soon to meet up the gas crisis.”
The Managing Director expressed his optimism that the crisis would be solved within one or two days.
Offices and business places going people, and students are suffering most due to the crises as many of those used to bring their breakfast from restaurants.
“I cannot take breakfast alone in a restaurant on the way of my office leaving my family members without food. So, I have to bring foods from restaurant for all members of my family first, then take those with them and then get preparation for going office. It makes me late almost every day to attend office,” said Arif Hossain, a private company official of Motijheel residing at Jigatola in the city.
Besides, Natasha, another Private bank official and mother of two school going children in Mohammadpur, said, she needs more time to prepare whole day food in the morning as the gas is not available in day time.
She also fails to join bank timely almost every day in this week.
She said that it is also time consuming to prepare meals from gas cylinder linked burner as its pressure is very low.
