Actor SM Mohsin buried with state guard of honour

Ekushey Padak winning noted actor and freedom-fighter SM Mohsin was buried followed by the state guard of honour. His body received the guard of honour at 2:40pm before burial. Later, he was buried at Azimpur graveyard yesterday. His namaz-e-janaza was held at Poribag mosque after Zuhr prayer, said Mohsin’s son Rezwan Mohsin. The actor was died of Covid-19 at a city hospital on Sunday morning. He was 73.
The teacher of drama and dramatics breathed his last under treatment at the ICU (Intensive Care Unit) of BIRDEM Hospital around 9:30am. He was admitted to the hospital on April 4. Around 70 per cent of his lungs was infected, physicians said. They tried to use plasma therapy and some other methods of treatment but to no avail. He left behind two sons.
The noted actor returned to Dhaka after completing shooting of a film, Antoratma, in Pabna on March 3, said director of the film Wazed Ali Khan Sumon. He was tested positive for coronavirus infection after a few days. The veteran stage and TV actor was taken to the hospital quickly. He was awarded the Ekushey Padak for his contributions in over four decades of acting in theatre and television.
A member of the Department of Drama and Dramatics of Jahangirnagar University, SM Mohsin was appointed as acting Director General of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy and first project director of National Theater.
Hailed from Mirzapur of Tangail, SM Mohsin started acting in dramas in TV and radio before the independence of Bangladesh. Abdus Sattar written drama Rokte Bheja Shapla, produced by Atiqul Haque Chowdhury, was Moshin-starrer one of the mentionable dramas before the war of independence, while drama Podokkhep was his acted first radio drama after independence. Former students of departments of Bangla and Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University SM Moshin also acted in Munier Chowdhury’s plays Kobor, Chithi, etc. He also acted in several numbers of theatre plays with Dhaka University’s Shatrong and Nattyachokro. He gave direction of many theatre plays. He acted with Drama Circle for many years. Keu Kichhu Bolte Parena, directed by Dr Rafiqul Islam, was his acted first play outside the country. It was staged in Kolkata in 1972 where Sheikh Kamal acted in role of his son while Ferdousy Mazumder acted in role of his elder daughter.
