Actor Mujibur Rahman Dilu passes away

Noted actor Mujibur Rahman Dilu passed away in a private hospital in the capital early Tuesday. He was 68. Dilu, who was undergoing treatment in the capital’s United Hospital, breathed his last at 6:46am. Earlier, the actor was kept in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of the hospital due to his deteriorating
condition. He was taken to the ICU on the evening
of January 15 where he was under the supervision
of Dr Omar Farooq of the hospital.
Actor’s son Ayon Rahman on Monday said that 70 per cent of his father’s lungs were affected. Although his Covid-19 result was negative but he had pneumonia. Earlier, Dilu was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre syndrome in 2005. Then in 2015 a type of bacteria spread in his blood. There were also two kidney stones but he returned to normalcy after treatment. Recently he was suffering from lung complications. On January 12, his condition deteriorated after which he was rushed to a hospital in Uttara. He was
later taken to United Hospital for advanced
treatment, where he died yesterday.
The actor’s first namaz-e-janaza took place at the Central Mosque of University of Dhaka after Johr prayers. Later, his body was kept on the premises of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy at 3:00pm. The
veteran freedom fighter was buried with state
honour at the Banani graveyard after Asr prayers.
Born in 1952, Mujibur Rahman Dilu, a TV and
theatre actor, director, theatre activist and playwright, achieved critical acclaim for his performance as Malu in popular drama series Songsoptok.
In 1976, Dilu directed and acted in the play Kingsuk Je Morute. It was selected in the first drama festival
of Bangladesh. He owns the theatre troupe Dhaka Drama. Dilu took part in the Liberation War of Bangladesh in 1971. His notable plays include Tothapi and Somoy Asomoy, among others. He was also a
coordinator of Tonatuni, a children’s organisation.
