Active role of journos to face climate change impacts underscored

Speakers at a workshop in the city urged journalists to play an important role in tackling the impacts of climate change and attaining sustainable development goals.
They suggested holding training programmes for journalists to enhance their efficiency to work in the field of climate and environment.
The workshop on ‘Climate Change, Environment and Journalism’ was held on Tuesday at Sagor-Runi auditorium of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) Jano Udyog, DRU and Institute of Environment and Development (IED) jointly organized the workshop.
Jano Udyog Executive Director and Dhaka University Anthropology Professor Dr. HK Arefin, Dr. Mahbuba Nasrin, climate journalist Kawser Rahman, DRU President Jamal Uddin, General Secretary Razu Ahmed and Training Affairs Secretary Halim Mohammad spoke at the workshop.
The speakers urged journalists to play an active role for the preservation and sustainable use of marine resources to ensure sustainable development and making water and sanitation available for all.
They stressed the need for proper use of country’s climate trust fund and enhancing efficiency of journalists through training.
The workshop suggested journalists to play a more vocal and active role to project the anti-climate activities of developed countries.
