The initiative of plying auto-rickshaws on the basis of meter based fare is going to be foiled as there is hardly any action against the defaulters. Chittagong Metropol-itan Police (CMP) and Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) stopped taking actions against CNG-run three wheeler auto rickshaws without meter or for not charging fare on the basis of meter, according to sources.
Sources said, despite the directives of CMP and BRTA, most of the CNG autos did not affix meters in the port city.
According to sources, CMP was controlling the movement of CNG-run three wheelers from July 24 and filed more than 1700 cases on July 24 and 25.
As a result, almost all CNG run three wheeler autos were running in the port city by meter from that day.
CMP had decided to stop the movement of all meter-less CNG from July 24. The CMP directed the owners and drivers to take fare as per meter from July 24 in the port city.
Traffic department of CMP held a meeting with the owners and drivers of the CNG-run three wheelers on July 20.
At the meeting the CMP authority and owners and drivers of the CNG took combined decision to stop movement of all meter-less CNG from July 24.
At the meeting, Additional Commissioner of CMP Mahamudul Hasan and top officials were present.
After several months, the CMP has started to take action against the CNG taxies which were yet to affix the meters of fare in the port city from July 24.
Following the decision, On July 24, police filed a total of 950 cases and seized more than 50 taxies while on second day police also filed 750 cases and seized 30 vehicles. But, at present there is no action against them.
