Business Desk :
Food Minister Sadhan Chandra Majumder on Sunday warned that action will be taken against those who will try to destabilise the rice market in the country.
The minister came up with the warning at a view exchange meeting regarding boro paddy procurement and market monitoring, joining virtually from his office at the Secretariat in Dhaka, a press release said.
“There is an unhealthy competition among traders to buy and stockpile paddy,” he said, adding that such a competition will not bring good results.
Sadhan said the rice millers have to send reports to officials at the Directorate General of Food regarding the amount of paddy they are purchasing and the amount of rice they are releasing in the market after processing.
The minister said confusion has been spreading around rumours that wheat is not being supplied from India.
“However, not only India but also many countries of the world have sent letters expressing interest in supplying wheat to Bangladesh.”
Sadhan said, “We have to make the boro paddy procurement a success and side by side continue market monitoring activities. We have to remain vigilant so that no one can destabilise the market.”
