Assaulting journalists: Action to be taken against guilty, says DMP boss

Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia on Tuesday assured the journalists that action would be taken against those of the police personnel who were involved in assaulting the two journalists in the city’s

Nayapaltan area. Police team led by Deputy Commissioner of Motijheel Division Anwar Hossain physically assaulted the two journalists when they were collecting information during BNP’s demonstration on Monday.
Asaduzzaman Mia said this while talking to reporters who went to the DMP headquarters for submitting a memorandum protesting the incident.
Terming the incident as undesirable, Asaduzzaman Mia said, “After investigation, action will be taken against those who manhandled the journalists.”
Meanwhile, over 100 journalists from different print, electronic and online media formed a human chain in front of the DMP Commissioner’s office and submitted a memorandum to the DMP Commissioner protesting the attack on two journalists.
On Monday, Arman Kaisar, a reporter, and Manik camera person of private TV Channel ‘Bangla TV’ went to cover a report of a protest programme orgainsed by Dhaka South unit of BNP in front of the party headquarters.
At one stage, Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain and his colleagues physically assaulted the two journalists.
Kamruzzaman Khan, former General Secretary of the Crime Reporters Association of Bangladesh (CRAB), Morsalin Nomani, former General Secretary of Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU), its former Vice-President Abu Darda Zubair and executive member of Dhaka Union of Journalist Golam Mostafa, among others, took part in the human chain programme.
