Acid thrower ex-husband held

Police arrested the culprit husband, who had injured his ex-wife throwing acid, from Rupnagar area of the capital city on Thursday afternoon.
The arrestee was identified as Jahangir Alam, 37, a CNG driver.
Nur Mohammed, Officer-in-Charge (Investigation) of Kotwali Police Station said a police team went Jahangir’s home in Rangpur area to arrest him. They came to know that Jahangir hid himself at capital city in his brother’s residence.
This afternoon another team of police conducted a drive in the area and arrested Jahangir at around 1:30pm.
The police team is bringing Jahangir to Chittagong, he added.
On September 26 two women identified as Sheli Akter, 22 and her mother Hosne Ara Begum, 50, were injured while Jahangir threw acid on them.
Sheli Akter, 22, is the ex-wife of Jahangir Alam.
Sheli divorced her husband last year and after that she opened a tea stall near Polo Ground Field.
Jahangir, who lived in the same area, used to tease her and forced to remarriage. Jahangir threw acid when Sheli refused to marry him again.
