Tavella murder: Accused Matin denies his involvement

BNP leader MA Qaiyum’s younger brother MA Matin, accused in the Italian citizen Cesare Tavella murder case, to confess refused his involvement on Tuesday.
Later, Magistrate Shahriar Mahmud Adnan of the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court of Dhaka passed orders to send him in the jail.
Earlier, the court asked Matin to decide whether he would confess in the case or not and he was given three hours to take decision. Before that, DB Police Inspector and Investigation Officer of the case Jehad Hossain produced Matin in the court to record his confessional statement. He was brought to the court on completion of a five-day remand.
On November 5, he was first put on an eight-day remand in the case. Matin was reportedly nabbed on November 4 at Baro Aanchra, near Benapole border.
Tavella, 50, Project Manager for PROOFS (Profitable Opportunities for Food Security) of the Netherlands based non-government organisation ‘ICCO Cooperation’, was shot dead by some miscreants in the city’s Gulshan area on September 28. The case was filed with the police station the same day. It was transferred to DB police on September 29.
