UNB, Dhaka :

Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) said that the recommendations of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) were not taken into account as expected.

He made the remarks at a press conference on Monday at the ACC head office on the annual report.

Responding to a question from reporters, the ACC chairman said, “We will continue our work. The responsibility for implementation lies with the respective ministries and organizations. The ACC does not have the administrative authority to see if they are doing it.”

“We have requested the Cabinet Division to come up with a framework to ensure that these recommendations are implemented. Because the cabinet department acts as the co-ordinator of each ministry.”

On the other hand, the ACC Commissioner (Investigation) said Mozammel Haque Khan said, “We cannot put pressure on the implementation of the recommendations in the light of the investigative report. That would be aggression or abuse of power by the ACC. However, if you (journalists) have specific information and data and present it to us, then we can press for action in that regard.”

Asked whether corruption has decreased, the ACC chairman said, “It is not easy to say this from our position. It has to be guessed, we don’t have any such mechanism. We don’t even have a research cell to comment on. We have no choice but to guess.”

The commission in 2017 formed 25 organizational teams for submitting reports after investigating laws, administrative procedures, and various sides of government money embezzlement and misuse in 25 public institutions.
