Education Minister Dr Dipu Moni said accreditation is a fruitful process for higher education as it will not only upgrade quality of the universities, but the universities will also learn a lot through self-assessment.
“Universities will actually be benefited soon after introducing the accreditation process. It will let the universities learn a lot through self-assessment along with improving the quality of education”, said Dr Dipu Moni.
She said this on Wednesday while addressing a conference on ‘Accreditation in Higher Education’ and launched the accreditation process for the country’s higher educational institutions at the International Mother Language Institute in the capital’s Segunbagicha area, reports BSS.
The minister said, “We have to take our own preparation to face and cope up with the challenges of the fourth industrial revolution. We have to upgrade the standard of education”.
Quality must be achieved and there is no alternative to it, she said, adding, “That’s why the accreditation process is so important.”
Criticizing enrolment of additional students, the education minister instructed educational institutions to formulate master plan, saying the university, which is 100-year-old, should scrutinize the relevance of each discipline that was introduced a century ago.
Deputy Minister for Education Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, MP, addressed the program as special guest with Bangladesh Accreditation Council Chairman Professor Mesbah Uddin Ahmed in the chair.
Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division Md Abu Bakar Siddique and Chairman (Additional Charge) of Bangladesh University Grants Commission (UGC) Dil Afroza Begum, among others, also addressed on the occasion.
