The government has planned to form an accreditation council to ensure the quality of private universities and control transparency of education system of the universities.
Following this, a regulation has already been made. Sources informed that, this accreditation council will work separately and will not be influenced by University Grant Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh.
Sources also informed that, the full name of the council will be “Accreditation Council for Private Universities of Bangladesh (ACPUB)”.
The formation of the accreditation council and the set of rules for it were approved at a meeting of the education ministry chaired by education minister Nurul Islam Nahid at the ministry’s auditorium in the secretariat.
Among others, the meeting was attended by education secretary Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury, Vice-Chancellor of Dhaka University, AAMS Arefin Siddique and vice-Chancellor of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, Nazrul Islam.
Education Secretary Dr. Kamal Abdul Naser Chowdhury informed that, for ensuring quality of private universities and rating, this council is forming. This council will be only for private universities of Bangladesh.
It is mentionable that, in 2003 UGC took a step to form such type of accreditation council.
