The High Court (HC) on Monday ordered local Returning Officer to accept the nomination paper from Jamaat-e-Islami leader with the BNP ticket for Rangpur-5, Golam Rabbani.
The High Court Bench of Justice Sheikh Hassan Arif and Justice Razik-Al Jalil passed the order after hearing a writ petition filed by Rabbani.
Rabbani’s lawyer Advocate Shishir Monir told the reporters, the Returning Officer did not accept his client’s nomination despite having all relevant documents. The Returning Officer kept Rabbani waiting for a long time and refused to accept his nomination papers on November 28, the last day for filing nomination.
Later, Rabbani filed petition with the court on Saturday challenging the decision.
