Tk 14.45 cr scam: ACC to sue 17 Health officials

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is going to file three cases against 17 people, including nine doctors and a former Deputy Secretary of the Health Ministry, on charge of embezzling Tk 14.45 crore in the name of buying medical equipment.
The ACC took the decision in its recent meeting at the commission headquarters after getting several written allegations.
Public Relations Officer of the ACC Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told The New Nation yesterday that the commission would lodge the cases against the accused, who emblazed Tk 14.45 crore from the fund of
 Satkhira Medical College Hospital, Satkhira Sadar Hospital and Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
The ACC will file two cases against 13 people on the charge of embezzling Tk 13.70 crore in the name of buying instrument for Satkhira Medical College Hospital.
The accused are former Principal and Director of Satkhira Medical College Hospital SZ Atik, Senior Consultants of Satkhira Sadar Hospital Ruhul Quddus and AKM Jahangir Alam, Junior Consultants Narayan Proshad Sanyal and Rahima Khatun, Medical Officer (Resident) Maruf Hasan, Senior Health Education Officer of Satkhira Civil Surgeon Office AKM Sohrab Hasan, Social Welfare Officer of Satkhira Social Welfare Department Md Wahiduzzaman, Officer of Public Works Department of Kushtia Harun-or-Rashid, former Deputy-Secretary of Health Ministry Abdul Malek, Owner of Mercantile Trade International Malik Abdus Sattar, Owner of Bengal Scientific and Surgical Company Jahir Uddin Sarker and Assistant Officer of National Electronics Medial Equipment Maintenance Workshop and Training Center Habibur Rahman.
The commission will file one case against five persons on the charge of embezzling Tk 74.98 lakh in the name of buying instrument for Dinajpur Medical College Hospital.
The names of the accused persons are former Directors of Dinajpur Medical College Hospital Abu Bakar Siddique, ABM Iqbal and Md Siddiqur Rahman, Owner of Blair Aviation Moksedul Islam and former Deputy-Secretary of Health Ministry Abdul Malek.
