An Investigation team of Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is now in the field to investigate the allegations of corruption brought against Narayanganj City Corporation Mayor Selina Hayat Ivy.
The ACC took the decision after the Local Government and Rural Development (LGRD) and Cooperatives Ministry had requested the commission in a letter to investigate as to whether the mayor was involved with irregularities in distributing shops and
flats at Panchabati Park.
The commission will send letter to Ivy seeking necessary papers. After getting the papers, the ACC will go for next course of action, the commission sources said.
The ACC Commissioner (investigation) Dr Nasir Uddin Ahmed told The New Nation that they were starting their work to investigate the corruption allegation against Selina Hayat Ivy. But he denied to make any comment in this regard before the investigation.
But the mayor termed the corruption charges brought against her as ‘conspiracy.’
Recently, at a mass gathering in Bandar upazila of Narayanganj, Ivy said, no conspiracy will be successful as she is working for the people.
Defending herself against a corruption case, Ivy said that she was not involved with the incident.
She said that a section of politicians in the district looted Tk103 crore from the government fund and they had polluted the political environment of the city.
She added that those politicians brought the corruption case against her to hamper the development work.
Narayanganj-4 MP AKM Shamim Osman raised allegation against Ivy in the Parliament on March 4. The LGRD ministry formed an investigation team comprising Additional Secretary of the ministry Ashok Madhob Ray, Deputy Secretary Kazi Asaduzzaman and Additional Deputy Secretary of Narayangonj Md Siddiqur Rahman on April 6.
The investigation team of the ministry found corruptions in the park project in the primary stage. The ministry referred the case to ACC to take next step, the ministry sources said.
After getting the letter of the ministry, the commission formed a powerful investigation team comprising Deputy Director Mir Md Joynul Abedin Shibly, Assistant Director Sheikh Abdus Salam and Deputy Assistant Director Selina Akhter Moni.
The statement of the ministry said that according to the law of the City Corporation, no official and employee or their wives of city corporations are allowed to be partner of any business without permission. But the wife of an official of Narayangonj City Corporation (Then Narayanganj Municipality) and wife of Dhaka City Corporation official signed a project named Panchabati Park with Zulfia International as partner. The Zulfia International was given the work order to build the park. But the wives of the officials did not take any permission. The wives named Kaniz Fatema and Liza Akhter and their Zulfia International failed to build the park in time properly. But the Narayangonj City Corporation did not take any steps against the Zulfia International.
The ministry’s investigation found the mayor Ivy involved with the irregularities in allocating the shops in Chashara City Market.
