Staff Reporter :
The Anti-corruption Commission has been investigating corruption charges against about 100 engineers of the government’s different construction and development sectors, ACC official sources said.
It alleged that along with the infrastructural development, corruption is also increasing in parallel. Transfer and making OSD often happen because of the corruption allegation.
According to ACC lawyers, corruption is not going to be reduced due to the lack of goodwill of the concerned organisation.

Last month, the ACC sought an estimate of the assets of Pradeep Kumar Basu, a former additional chief engineer of the Public Works Department. Allegations of corruption against three other former chief public works engineers are being investigated. Among the field level accused, deputy assistant engineer Ali Akbar was at the centre of the discussion, the sources said.
According to ACC lawyers, it takes a long time before a corruption cases is proved. During the time, the accused is transferred and gets many more important responsibilities. Because of this the corrupt is encouraged.
On the other hand, the Transparency International Bangladesh (TIB) thinks that corruption in the construction and development sectors is not decreasing.
In most cases, corruption is organized in collusion with contractors. Due to this, there is very little allegation of corruption against the officials in the construction or development sector, said the TIB.
