Md Mahabub Alam : The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) decided to investigate against 24 former and incumbent high ranking government officials on charge of their involvement in a number of irregularities, sources in the commission said. The decision of investigation was taken on the basis of complaints received by the commission but there is no apparent sign of progress, source said. The complaints included giving and taking of kickback, abuse of power, illegal appointment, certificate forging and land grabbing.Sources say, earlier the ACC abstained from filing case on the plea of a provision. According to ACC Act 2013, Section No-32 (A), prior permission from the government before filing case against any bureaucrat was necessary. The embargo does not exist now after a High Court rule. Yet, there is little advancement in dealing with the corruption cases. On condition of anonymity, a middle ranking officer of the commission told The New Nation that the internal rift was a barrier to taking decision of starting inquiry against any bigwig. He also pleaded that the commission with its limited skilled manpower can hardly conduct all investigations. Of the 24 officials, there are three secretaries, one additional secretary, 11 joint-secretaries, six deputy secretaries, four senior assistant secretaries and two assistant commissioners, the sources said.Still, the ACC filed three cases against Expatriates’ Welfare and Oversees Employment Secretary Khandokar Shawkat Hossain, who reportedly managed several plots in the city abusing his power.
