ACC to form 2 task forces

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is going to form two taskforces, each comprising five members, with a view to reducing corruption from different sectors. The taskforces led by Director Generals will include skilled and efficient officials of the ACC. It will also investigate any institution if it wants. ACC Chairman M Badiuzzaman told The New Nation yesterday that, “the commission has taken many initiatives to strengthen its overall performance as well as restore image.” “As part of the initiatives, the ACC abolished the 11-member institutional teams, as the team members were involved with many irregularities. We will announce the names of the taskforces soon,” he said.The ACC Chairman said that the taskforces would not work in any particular field. They will also be kept stand by like the reserve forces. They will have power to conduct drive with the direction of the ACC, he said.The ACC abolished teams worked at the National Revenue Board (NBR), Health Department, Education Engineering Department, Dhaka City Corporations, Roads and Highways Departments, Local Government Engineering Department, Bangladesh Roads Transport Authority (BRTA), Bangladesh Government Officer-Employee Welfare Board, Bangladesh Petroleum Corporation and Rajdhani Unnoyan Kartripakkha. On August 10, the ACC Commissioner Md Shahab Uddin Chuppu formally announced the formation of taskforces. He said the ACC received many allegations against the 11 institutional teams and found many irregularities against them.
