Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and Transparency International, Bangladesh (TIB) will work together in a bid to eliminate corruption from the country, ACC Chairman Iqbal Mahmud said on Monday.
“After carrying out the joint investigation to find out the root cause of corruption, will be eliminated,” he said while signing a two years and four months term Memorandum of Understanding on prevention of corruption with TIB at the ACC office in the city yesterday.
ACC officials and Dr Iftekharuzzaman, Executive Director of TIB were also present at the MoU signing ceremony, said a ACC press release yesterday.
Iqbal Mahmud said the joint efforts of the two anti-graft bodies will create a unique example to root out corruption from the country
“Corruption and people’s harassment are on the rise in the country due to the prevailing bureaucratic complexities,” he said.
The ACC and TIB will work on 15 issues including research on mass hearing to prevent corruption, advocacy, capacity building programme and management.
ACC Chief said the TIB criticises different organisations including ACC regarding corruption issue.
“We also are criticised by the TIB in many ways. But now we want to set an example through working jointly with the TIB,” he said.
The ACC Chairman said political willingness is urgently needed to root out corruption from the society.
“The ACC has been given sufficient allocation in the proposed National Budget for FY 2017-18 as per our demand. The government has met our demand and it is an outcome of the government’s political commitment against corruption,” he said.
He said people are being deprived of government’s service due to corruption.
“And the black money is also created due to the corruption. Besides, corruption money is used in various criminal activities including terrorism. As a result, country’s people are being affected seriously. Our next generation is the most affected due to corruption,” he said.
