ACC set to file cases against 16 graft suspects

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) is set to file six cases against 16 graft suspects, including a sub-registrar, for allegedly grabbing a forest land.
The Commission at its regular meeting on Wednesday decided to file the cases against them, ACC public relations officer Pranab Kumar Bhattacharya told UNB.
The cases will be filed against then sub-registrar of Bhaluka (Mymensingh) Md Fazlur Rahman (now sub-registrar of Keraniganj, Dhaka), chairman of Roza Agro Limited Mossadek Ali and 14 others.
According to the ACC’s probe, sub-registrar Fazlur Rahman allowed registration of a 9.6-acre forest land to 15 people violating government rules when he worked in Bhaluka upazila sub-registrar’s office.
All the accused in collusion with each other grabbed the land by taking illegal benefits from the sub-registrar.
ACC deputy director Jahangir Alam of its Mymensingh zila office will soon file the cases against them in this regard.
Besides, the ACC will file a case against former commissioner of Barisal Municipality Mofizul Islam Jhanto for allegedly accumulating illegal wealth worth Tk 3 crore.
