Zia Charitable case: ACC seeks PW for Khaleda

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) yesterday (Thursday) submitted a petition to Special Court-5 of Dhaka for producing Begum Khaleda Zia in the court in the Zia Charitable graft case.
On behalf of the ACC, Prosecutor Mosharraf Hossain Kajal submitted the petition seeking Production Warrant (PW) to the special court of Dr Md Akhteruzzaman on Thursday. The court accepted the petition, however it did not pass any order on the petitionEarlier, on February 1, the same court fixed February 25 and 26 for hearing in the Zia Charitable Trust graft case.
Earlier, the judge of the court heard the arguments on behalf of defence counsel Aminul Islam for accused Ziaul Islam Munna. On February 1, Khaleda appeared before the court in the case. The ACC filed the case on August 8, 2011, with Tejgaon Model Police Station accusing four persons including BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia of abusing power to raise funds for the Trust from unknown sources.
Other three accused persons are: Harris Chowdhury, Khaleda Zia’s political secretary when she was the Prime Minister between 2001 and 2006, Ziaul Islam Munna, assistant private secretary to Harris Chowdhury and Monirul Islam Khan, APS to former Dhaka City Mayor Sadeque Hossain Khoka. Of the accused, Harris is on the run.
