ACC must not seek publicity for blackmailing before successful investigation

There are restrictions on freedom of expression but police and the ACC have all the freedom to give publicity and hold press conferences making a big show of an arrest when the matter is under investigation. No civilised country with any sense of prestige will humiliate others in so easy way. Investigation is done without publicity before some material evidence has been found against the person concerned. The officials expect ovation for they being angels and heroes as fighters of corruption.

We are aware that except thieves and plunderers nobody else’s honour or dignity is worth any consideration. Our Anti-Corruption Commission should be a responsible and respectable body not to humiliate a person by giving publicity that the ACC is going to or has started investigation against somebody. We fail to appreciate why the corruption cases should be treated as police cases and an FIR should be treated as the beginning of a criminal case. The ACC lodges FIR after successful ending of investigation. There is legal bar also to initiate corruption investigation in the government.

The honest people have sheepish existence and seek how to live calmly and honourably. The power of corruption is the power to which all must bow. For its failure to prove corruption cases even after years of investigation many people want to see abolition of the ACC itself. The Commission is used more for humiliating people than fighting corruption. Here corruption should be celebrated knowing how helpless the general public are before corruption moguls.

It was given publicity in the press on last Monday that the Commission had taken the decision to probe graft allegation against the principal of a school. Ordinary police case should be enough to deal with a crime by a school principal.
