ACC enquiring against Laxmipur MP’s amassing Tk 1,400cr

Staff Reporter: Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday said it will enquire into the allegations against Laxmipur-2 MP Quazi Shaheed Islam who has amassed Tk 1,400 crore illegally.
The MP, allegedly amassed that amount of wealth through human trafficking to Kuwait. He also allegedly laundered the money to different countries in recent years.
Sources of the commission said that it (ACC) has issued an order on Tuesday, to carry out the enquiry. ACC Director General (special investigation) was given the task.
On February 12, daily Arab Times made headline with the name of Quazi Shaheed Islam for human trafficking in Kuwait.
According to the report, three Bangladeshis are running a human trafficking channel in the country.
The report also stated that the trio engaged sensitive positions in three major companies and brought more than 20,000 Bangladeshi migrants into the Arab country in exchange of large amount of money. According to the report the amount of the money may be more than Tk 1,391.6 crore.
