UNB, Dhaka :
Barrister Sheikh Fazle Noor Taposh MP said on Monday the Chairman of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) should resign if he fails to discharge his responsibilities.
The Member of Parliament made the comment while expressing his resentment to journalists on the lack of action taken against former BASIC Bank Ltd chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu at the Supreme Court.
The ACC filed at least 56 cases against the loan scam incident of BASIC Bank. Initially the managing director was removed and later Abdul Hye Bachchu tendered his resignation letter to the Finance Minister.
“Even before investigation, we had seen at different meetings of the Parliamentary Standing Committee that the main culprit behind the corruption in the financial and banking sectors through BASIC Bank was its chairman Sheikh Abdul Hye Bachchu,” Taposh said.
“For that reason, the government removed him from the post but in all the corruption cases filed against BASIC Bank, we have seen only some officials and businessmen were implicated,” he added.
According to Taposh, no corruption cases have been filed against the then chairman Abdul Hye Bachchu till now although he was involved with the loan scams.
