Staff Reporter :
The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Wednesday sent letters to banks asking information on eight BNP leaders recent bank transactions.
“We have asked banks to submit information on those persons money transactions statement at different times,” said Shamsul Alam, the ACC Deputy Director and the enquiry officer on allegations against eight BNP leaders.
He denied detail about the case and the step of the ACC in this regard.
On Monday the ACC appointed Shamsul Alam as enquiry officer to conduct inquiry against the eight BNP leaders. They are BNP standing committee members Dr. Khandakar Mosharraf Hossain, Mirza Abbas, Nazrul Islam Khan and Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury; Vice-Chairmen Abdul Awal Mintoo and M. Morshed Khan, Joint Secretary General Habib-un-Nabi Khan Sohel and Executive Committee Member Tabith Awal. Morshed Khan’s son Foysal Morshed and Dhaka Bank Managing Director Syed Mahbubur Rahman are also being investigated.
BNP leaders dismissed the allegation at a press conference in the city on Tuesday.
They said, after the conviction of BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia in February in a graft case, this is the first such move the ACC made against top BNP leaders.
The BNP protested the move as politically motivated to harm BNP’s ongoing movement to release its Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia from jail.
The party leaders also alleged that the government want to ruin BNP’s image and trying to hold another one sided election.
