The High Court on Thursday exempted Biroda Rani, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Bhurungamari upazila in Kurigram, from the charges for sentencing a lawyer through mobile court on December 12.
The court freed Biroda Rani after she filed an affidavit offering unconditional apology for her controversial role.
The HC bench of Justice Md Habibul Gani and Justice Kamrul Kader passed the order.
On December 17, the HC’s vacation bench summoned the AC-land to appear before it on December 27 to explain her role in the incident.
On December 12, Biroda fined Advocate Nirod Bihari Tk 500, in default, to suffer one day in jail over sitting in front of her office when she was the land officer of Birganj upazila in Dinajpur.
Later, Biroda was transferred to Kurigram following a widespread resentment among the local lawyers.
Supreme Court lawyer Syed Mohidul Kabir and Advocate Kazi Helal Uddin brought the matter to the court’s notice.
