About face oils if you have oily skin

Face oils have die-hard fans. Sometimes people speak so highly of them, you’d think they have special powers (and many swear they do). But contrary to what you might have heard, there’s one skin type that doesn’t fare so well. We’re talking about oily skin.
Yes, we realize you’ve been told oil works well on every skin type. They can-just with a few small stipulations. If you have oily skin, here are some common mistakes you could be making.
Mistake #1: You apply it too often.
“If you have very dry skin, you can use an oil day and night,” says dermatologist Debra Jaliman, M.D. “But if you have combination or oily skin, you might want to use an oil only once a day.”
Mistake #2: You’re not considering the ingredients.
Celebrity aesthetician Nerida Joy says some of her favorite oils include jojoba, borage, and evening primrose oil because they’re especially healing and nourishing. “They can penetrate the skin to help combat dryness as well as feed it nutrients. Plus, borage is rich in gamma linolenic acid (GLA), which is wonderful for skin that’s sensitive to hormone fluctuations,” she says. -The Glamour
Celebrity aesthetician Gina Mari agrees. She says jojoba oil is great because it mimics the skin’s natural sebum and can help balance oil production.
Mistake #3: You’re not using it in your routine correctly.
Skincare experts say the key is not only to pick the right oil for you but to also be more diligent with your skincare routine overall. That way you’ll get the best use out of your face oil. Joy says, “If your skin tends to be more oily, don’t be scared to do an additional exfoliation.” It’ll help the oil absorb better.
Mistake #4: Your oil is too heavy.
Face oils can make it harder for your skin cells to turnover naturally, so if they’re too dense for your skin, they’ll end up clogging your pores. “If you rub it gently, and it just sits there on the surface, then it’s too heavy,” says Dr. Jaliman. “It’s best to look for a light oil that absorbs into your skin quickly.”
Mistake #5: You’re putting it on at the wrong time.
Even if you are only using oil once a day, if you’re putting it on in the morning, that’s no bueno. “Your skin produces less sebum at night, so the best time to use a face oil is right before you go to sleep,” Mari says.
Mistake #6: You haven’t experimented with other uses.
If your face still feels like an oil slick after trying the tips above, try Joy’s suggestion: Add a couple drops of oil to your moisturizer to give it a little boost. “It’s nice because you can adjust how much you need to apply based on your environment-the weather/season-and lifestyle,” she says.
