About 10 lakh BD men may get job abroad this year: Expat Minister

Expatriates’ Welfare and Employment Overseas Minister of Bangladesh Imran Ahmed on Wednesday said that about 10 lakh Bangladeshi workers would get jobs abroad this year.
“About one lakh workers are going abroad every month. About 60 to 70 thousands of them are going to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia,” the minister said it in a view exchange meeting with the stakeholders about safe migrations and Iftar mahfil organised by the ministry in the city on Wednesday.
The minister said that Saudi Embassy in Dhaka issued one lakh and 70 thousand visas in the last two months.
The embassy issues on average four thousand visas everyday, he said.
The Expatriates’ welfare minister said that his ministry had brought speedy pace in the technical training courses, but the Covid-19 pandemic hindered it.
Dr. Ahmed Munirus Saleheen, the Secretary of the ministry said that the government is now emphasising on skilled training of the workers before sending them abroad.
CR Abrar of Refugee and Migratory Movements Research Unit (RMMRU) emphasised on enhancing of technical training centers comparing on international curriculums.
Meanwhile, Fatima Nusrat Gazzali, Deputy Chief of Mission of International Organisa-tion of Migration (IOM), told that the migration sector deserves extra care as like the remittance inflows.
Laetitia Weibel Roberts of International Labour Organization (ILO) suggested to prepare new curriculums for workers so that they can use their full skills.
