BSS, Lalmonirhat :
The people of 59 recently abolished enclaves in the districts celebrated the Victory Day for the first time with huge enthusiasm and festivity after 44-years of independence.
It was a different day to the people of the abolished enclaves as they celebrated the victory festival as Bangladeshi citizens for the first time. People of the surrounding abolished enclaves also joined the celebration.
Marking the day, National flag was hoisted, record of Father of Nation Bangladesh Sheikh Mujibur Rahman’s speech of 7th March was played and different roads were decorated colorfully.
“Through the celebration of Victory Day, the people of abolished enclaves wholeheartedly started thinking they are citizens of Bangladesh. The citizens of main lands and recently acknowledged Bangladeshis jointly enjoyed the day forgetting all discriminations,” Ramzan Ali, 65, an elderly person of a newly abolished enclave told BSS.
He said they are happy as they are celebrating the Victory Day as the citizens of Bangladesh when several mastermind war criminals had walked to gallows for their crimes against humanity during the War of Liberation in 1971.
In the abolished “Vitorkuti Enclave” at Sadar upazila, a temporary monument was established to pay tributes to the martyred of 1971 Liberation War. The Victory Day programme began with recitation of hoisting of national flag and recitation of national anthem at the monument premises at 10 am. Administrator of Lalmonirhat Zila Parishad Advocate Matiar Rahman inaugurated the festival. A colorful procession was brought out and discussion was held marking the day.
The day was also celebrated in other abolished enclaves including Gotamari and enclaves inside Patgram upazila amid different programmes.
