It looks more like a canal :
Padma is a major river in Bangladesh. It is the main distributary of the Ganges, flowing generally southeast for 120 kilometres (75 miles) to its confluence with the Meghna River near the Bay of Bengal. The city of Rajshahi is situated on the banks of the river.
Once fierce Padma, now looks like a canal during the lean period because of the construction of the Farakka Barrage across the river in the Indian part. A friend of me said, if you look at the river from the Paksey Railway Station and Rajshahi River embankment you will begin weeping and will say to yourself: What am I seeing?
In the months of summer, any one can wade through the knee-deep water of the river and reach the other side. Nowadays, there is no bajra, no fishing boat, no launch and no murmuring before it reaches Manikganj district.
