thestatesman.com : Former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam passed away on Monday, after he was admitted to a private hospital here in Meghalaya in a critical condition. Kalam, 83, collapsed at the Indian Institute of Management-Shillong while delivering a lecture to the students of the B-school.He was brought to the Bethany Hospital, where he was declared dead. His body will be taken to the military hospital in Shillong and then to Guwahati. Condoling Kalam’s death, BJP MP Shatrughan Sinha told thestatesman.com, “He was one of the most loved, respected and genius personality. Sad demise and that too at this juncture is absolutely an irreparable loss to the nation. He was the silver-lining in the cloud of today’s scenario. He was loved by the intellectuals, senior citizens and younger generation, even children. I pray that his people and supporters are comforted and may his soul rest in peace.” Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh twitted: ‘Deeply saddened at the sudden demise of the former president of India Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam. He was an inspiration to an entire generation’. Union External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj twitted: Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam was people’s President. My homage to the great soul.
