The members of law enforcement agencies have so far failed to trace the abducted councilor and panel mayor of Narayanganj city corporation (NCC) Nazrul Islam and his four associates and Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver Ismail Hossain since their abduction on Sunday.
Meanwhile, lawyers and supporters of Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) panel mayor Nazrul Islam staged demonstration on Tuesday for the second day demanding immediate rescue of the abducted persons.
They also blocked the Dhaka-Chittagong and Dhaka-Sylhet Highways for several hours setting ablaze tyres and tree trunks. All modes of transport remained suspended for nearly two hours on Dhaka-Chittagong high way following the barricade. Besides, the members of Narayanganj District Bar Association boycotted the court proceeding yesterday demanding the rescue of its member Advocate Chandan Kumar Sarker and his driver Ismail Hossain.
The lawyers also gave an ultimatum demanding rescue of their fellow colleague Chandan Sarkar before Wednesday evening.
They also gheraoed the office of the Deputy Commissioner (DC) in the morning and a team of lawyers, led by the Bar Association president and general secretary met with DC Monoj Kanti Boral.
The lawyers threatened to go for a tougher movement for withdrawal of the DC and the SP if the abducted persons are not rescued by Wednesday evening.
Narayanganj district Bar president Sakhwat Hossain Khan talking to the DC said, “The district has become a den of crimes like murder, forced disappearance, abduction. As the administration has failed to ensure protection, it has no right to continue in their offices.”
DC Monaj Kanti Boral assured them that the district administration would do everything possible to rescue the abducted Lawyer and his driver and also others who have been abducted.
Chandan Sarkar along with driver Ibrahim went missing at Jalkuri in Shiddhirganj in the afternoon on Sunday while returning home from the Narayanganj court.
Just after the abduction of Chandan, NCC panel mayor Nazrul Islam along with his four associates was abducted by from Fatullah on Sunday. The other abducted persons are Nazrul’s aides Tajul, Swapan, Liton and his private car driver.
Meanwhile, the government has decided withdrawal of five officials of Narayanganj district administration including DC, Superintendent of Police, CO of RAB- 11 and Officer in Charge of Fatullah following abduction of eight persons in the port city.
