Abduction, snatching and robbery incidents in guise of police and other forces are occurring even in a broad daylight in the capital regularly.
Consequently, inhabitants of the Dhaka city have become disappointed as most of the incidents are happing in front of people despite having police patrols around the areas.
The most recent abduction incident took place in Dhaka University area. It shocked the whole nation as the incident happened in broad daylight.
On September 3, a businessman Mohiuddin Khan was allegedly kidnapped from the Dhaka University campus area. At the time, kidnappers robbed Tk about 20 lakh and a mobile phone from Mohiuddin. He filed a case with the Shahbag police station in the capital. He was also treated at Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital.
In this regard, Maudut Howladar, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shahbag police station, told The New Nation that the information was being verified after receiving the initial complaint. Efforts are being made to arrest those involved with the incident, OC said.
Meanwhile, victim Mohiuddin Khan claimed that an olive-colored car stopped him while riding a motorcycle on the road in front of Dhaka University Club around 3:30 pm on Saturday.
Three people got down from the car and asked him to get down from the motorcycle. Then the men put a pistol to his head, and pushed him in the car, blindfolded him with a towel, and started beating him mercilessly.
Mohiuddin said, at one point, he realized that he was under the grip of robbers. At that time, the robbers snatched a total of 20 lakh taka and a mobile phone from him.
Later they threw him on the side of the road with his hands, feet, and eyes tied.
 Some passers-by heard his gurgling sound, came forward and rescued him. He was on the side of the road of Abdullahpur in Keraniganj at that time.
Earlier, on August 25 a student of Dhaka University (DU) got down from a DU bus at Kallyanpur bus stand to go to her house.
“After going few yards from the bus stand, an unknown motorcyclist identifying himself as police took her on his motorcycle claiming to take her to police station
from Kallyanpur area. Later, members of Detective Branch (DB) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) have arrested four people along with weapons for their alleged involvement in kidnapping the University female student and snatching her belongings.
Besides, Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader’s mobile was snatched when he was in the middle of a phone call near Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport area in Dhaka last Thursday.
In this regard when asked Dr. Hafiz Uddin Buiyan, Professor of University of Dhaka told the New Nation that these all things are occurring everyday due to the lack of control of the state organ. Besides, political patronization as well as shelter by the local influential are also responsible for such crimes. Due to injustice and lack of rule of law, these types of crime are increasing in an alarming rate, Dr. Hafiz said.
When asked Haron Or Rashid, Chief of Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) told the New Nation that we are alert in this incident. DB of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police is investigating the matter as shadow inquiry.
When asked about this, Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramana Police Division, Shahidullah said that a case has been filed with Shahbagh police station based on the written complaint of the victim businessman. So far no one has been arrested in this incident. We have spoken to the victim and the investigation is ongoing, he added.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Detective Ramana Regional Team Mishu Biswas told the media that the DB Police is working to investigate the robbery of Tk 20 lakh. Attempts are being made to identify the culprits by looking at the CCTV cameras of the scene.
Mentionable that the robbery incident happened at New Al-Amin Jewelers of Naseeruddin Super Market in Abdullahpur area of South Keraniganj on August 17 around 2 pm. The miscreants looted a huge gold ornaments by throwing hand grenades and shooting gold trader Swapan Mondal (45) in broad daylight.
