Members of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) rescued a polytechnic student from Samshadhipur in the city on Monday noon, a day after he had been abducted by some miscreants.
The rescued was identified as Anisur Rahman, son of M Hannan Miah, a resident of Gurudashpur of Natore district, and a student of Shah Makhdum Polytechnic Institute.
RAB members also arrested five people, including three of a family, in connection with the incident.
The arrestees are Latifa Begum, 45, wife of Adbul Gafur of Baraban Chalkpara village under Shah Makhdum Police Station, her son M Shohag, 20, daughter Lima, 18, Badsha, 52, son of late Abdul Mandal of Samshadhipur in Motihar upazila, and Liton Ali, 37.
Rab sources said some miscreants forcefully picked up Anisur from Amchattar under Shah Makhdum Police Station on Sunday noon.
Hours after the abduction, the hoodlums called Anisur’s father over mobile phone and demanded Tk1.80 lakh as ransom.
Later, victim’s father lodged a complaint with Rab-5 in this connection.
Rab personnel based on secrete information conducted a drive at Barabangram Chalkpara village on Monday noon and arrested Shohag and Latifa.
Later, the elite force following statement of the duo rescued Anisur around 1:45pm and arrested the others.
