Journalist Ali Abbas and journalist Chowdhury Farid have won the biennial election in Chittagong Press Club. Ali Abbas has won the President post of Chittagong Press Club while Chowdhury Farid has won the post of General Secretary.
The members of Chittagong Press Club voted on Saturday from 9 am till 4 pm. Omar Kaiser, Chairman of the Election Committee announced the results of the polls at 9: 30 pm. Ali Abbas, ATN Bangla Bureau Chief, won the presidential post gaining 127 ballots. His closest contestant Daily Purbokon’s feature editor Ejaz Yousufi got 49 votes.
Dainik Ittefaq’s Bureau Chief Salahuddin Reza got 137 votes winning the post of Senior Vice President. Manzur Kader Manzu of ATN Bangla won the post of Vice President with 130 votes. Chowdhury Farid, Bureau Chief of Channel I won the General Secretary post with 127 votes.
His closest contestant Shuklal Dash got 86 votes. Shuklal Dash is Senior Reporter, Dainik Azadi. Nazrul Islam, Sports Reporter of Dainik Azadi won the post of joint secretary general with 87 votes. Deb Dulal Bhowmik of Dainik Purbodesh won the post of finance secretary with 114 votes.
Debashish Barua Debu of Dainik Purbokon, Rashed Mahmud and Ayub Ali have won the posts of sports secretary, library secretary and social service secretary respectively. Baishakhi Television’s Rupam Chakrabarty won the post of cultural secretary while Mintu Chowdhury of bdnews24.com won the post of publications secretary. On the other hand, Shamsul Islam, SM Ibrahim, Mohammad Ali and Kazi Abul Mansur have won the posts of executive members.
