Police have recovered a pistol which they believe was used in the murder of prime mover-trailer driver Shahjahan Saju, from a forest in Sitakunda upazila of Chattogram early on Monday.
Sub-inspector (SI) Saiful Alam of Sitakunda Police Station, who is also the investigation officer of the murder case, said law enforcers seized the abandoned firearm from Kalu Shah Shrine area of Sitakunda, based on the confession of the lone accused Masum – a colleague of Saju from Tahsin Enterprise. Police took the accused to the arms recovery drive, where he identified the spot, added the SI.
Driver Saju was shot inside a motor garage in Sitakunda upazila, allegedly by Masum. With a bullet wound to the abdomen, he was first taken to a local hospital and then to Chattogram Medical College Hospital where he died.
Victim’s wife Shahida Akhter filed a case accusing Masum. The accused later surrendered before a court of Chattogram after fellow drivers called a strike protesting the murder.
