Dhaka Abahani Limited will play in the preliminary round of Asian Football Confederation (AFC) Cup. Earlier, Dhaka Abahani Limited took part in the zonal semi-final of the AFC Cup.
Dhaka Abahani Limited will face the winners of the play-off match between Club Valencia of Maldives and Paro FC of Bhutan. Abahani will take on the winners of the play-off match on April 12.
If Dhaka Abahani Limited win the play-off match, the popular Dhanmondi based outfit will likely to play against ATK Mohan Bagan FC of India on April 19. Mohan Bagan have to win against the winners of the play-off match between Machindra FC of Nepal and Blue Star of Sri Lanka if Mohan Bagan want to play against Abahani. If Abahani win against their opponents in the second play-off match, Abahani will move into the group phase. The other teams of Group-D are: Bangladesh Premier League Football champions Bashundhara Kings, I-League champions Gokulam Kerala FC, champions of the Maldives Premier League Football Maziya Sports & Recreation Club. The matches of Group-D will be held from May 19 to May 24.
