Local Government, Rural Development and Cooperatives (LGRD) Minister Md Tajul Islam said that the two city corporations in Dhaka had stockpiled insecticides for one year to exterminate dengue-carrying Aedes mosquitoes. “No questions about the quality of the drugs will arise,” he said this while talking to the reporters in the Secretariat on Thursday morning.
The Minister said, “I am preparing remembering the bitter experience of last year. A few days ago, I spoke to the officers and representatives of the two city corporations and tried to assess the situation.”
The city corporation officials have given guarantee about the effectiveness of the insecticides, he added.
Tajul Islam said, “I have been told that the equipments needed to spray the drugs are also there.”
An unprecedented situation arose last year after the outbreak of Aedes mosquito-borne dengue. At least 164 people died from the disease and more than 100,000 were infected.
At that time, the city corporation authorities came under fire for failing to kill the mosquitoes.
