Like many other previous years the present Holy month of Ramzan started with Israel’s brutal attack against the unarmed Palestinian Muslim people of Al-Quds, the first Qiblah of the Muslim Ummah, popularly known as Bait al-Muqaddas. But more important is that this year’s Al-Quds Day is approaching in a new and very important perspective.
One century ago during the First World War the then Arab nationalist leaders cooperated with the Western imperialist powers to occupy Arab lands including Palestine. But after the occupation they retreated from their promise to establish a great Arab country and divided the Arab land into pieces and put those in the hands of puppet rulers. But the Palestinian people faced the worst miseries, because the British government established direct colonial rule in this land. Then, based on a bilateral conspiracy to establish a Jewish state the colonial government extended all sorts of cooperation to Zionists to bring foreign Jews to Palestine. At the beginning the Jews used to purchase Palestinian lands and at the later stage they killed and uprooted the Palestinian people and forcibly occupied their land. Then after the end of the Second World War the Zionist entity unilaterally declared the establishment of their state of Israel in a part of Palestine (1948) and all the imperialist powers and the UN dominated by them recognised it. Then the state again killed hundreds and ousted hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people from their homeland.
Since the beginning of large-scale illegal migration of foreign Jews to Palestine Palestinian people were protesting against this process and later on they fought against the Israeli forces. But every time due to interference of governments of neighbouring Arab countries, who were nothing but the puppets of the British colonial power and also due to all out backing of the colonial power to the Israelis all these efforts failed. After establishment of the illegal state of Israel there were some wars between Arabs and Israel, but due to interference of the imperialist powers and the UN and inefficiency of Arab forces Arabs were defeated in all of these wars, particularly in the War of June 1967 all the Palestinian lands including Al-Quds that was previously out of Israeli control, were captured by Israel and again hundreds of thousands of Palestinian people were ousted from their land.
Also after the occupation of all the Palestinian lands by Israel freedom movement of the Palestinian people continued, but due to weakness of the movement and indifference of the neighbouring Arab governments the movement couldn’t produce any result.
After the victory of the Islamic Revolution in Iran (1979) under the able leadership of Imam Khomeini (R.), he declared two top agendas for the Muslim Ummah: Unity of the Ummah irrespective of Mazhabs and Firqahs and freeing the entire Palestinian land including Al-Quds. To achieve these two goals he declared Islamic Unity Week centering the date of birth of the last Prophet of Islam (Sm) and the last Friday of Ramzan as Al-Quds Day. Since then the Islamic Unity Week and the Al-Quds Day are being observed every year throughout the Muslim World.
Imam Khomeini (R.) appealed to the Ummah to eliminate illegal entity of the Zionist state of Israel and establish Palestinian state in the entire land of Palestine. Iran cut the relationship with Israel and turned the Israeli Embassy in Tehran into Palestinian Embassy. Khomeini inspired to create strong resistance against Israel. In the mean time (in 1982) Israel occupied South and Central Lebanon including Beirut, the capital of the country, but the Lebanese Muslims ousted them from their land and for the first time Israeli forces were forced to leave a land occupied by them.
After this glorious victory the Muslims of South Lebanon formed Hizbullah organisation and Muslims of Palestine formed Hamas organisation. Thus a new phase of strong resistance started against Israel for freedom of Palestine.
In this stage, Israel and its patron United States adopted a new strategy. They promised to the Palestinian people a temporary autonomy to be followed by an independent Palestinian state beside Israel and in spite of rejection by Hamas, leadership of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) accepted it (1993).
In a later stage Hamas took part in the election of Palestinian Parliament (2006). It won the election and formed the government, but after a short period the President of the Authority, also the chief of PLO, dismissed the Government (2007). It resulted into division of the so-called autonomous areas; Hamas took control of Gaza Strip and the West Bank remained in the hands of PLO-leaders. Then Gaza became continuous target of Israeli forces’ air attacks including destructive war of December 2008 – January 2009, but in spite of these and also sanction by Israel, Gaza people proved themselves as invincible. However, Iran has been extending all-out help to them.
On the other hand Hizbullah freed occupied territory of South Lebanon (2000) from the so-called South Lebanon Army (SLA), the puppet of Israel. Then Israel again imposed an all-out war and occupied South Lebanon (2006), but Hizbullah drove them away again from their land.
In this perspective Israel and its patrons understood that continuation of this process will result into final defeat of Israel, its elimination and independence of Palestine. So they adopted a new strategy to protect Israel. As Syria is supporting the rights of the Palestinian people and it has border with Palestine and Lebanon, they decided to overthrow the Syrian government and bring their puppets in power. At the beginning some political and military elements of Syria are being used for this purpose. These elements have revolted and started war against the government, but failed.
Then their masters resorted to exploit the sentiment of some ignorant Muslims who are acquainted neither with real Islamic teachings nor international political affairs, particularly the aim of the US and Israel in the Middle East. In an indirect way they instigated these elements to establish a so-called Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. So these people of various countries stepped in and with the arms given by the imperialists and their allies started a war, killed Muslims and captured a part of Syria and Iraq. If they had proper sense and farsightedness they would start war against Israel for freedom of Palestine and establish an Islamic state there. If so the Muslim Ummah would support them. But they are trying to weaken the possibility of freedom of Palestine and Al-Quds fighting against the supporters of the Palestinian people.
How can the governments in the Middle East, who are not Islamic ones, come forward to help the state? Are they not afraid that if the so-called Islamic State sustains it may try to expand and grasp these countries? But they know that it will not happen. Because aim behind it is to weaken the possibility of freedom of Palestine and ensure the security of Israel.
In this new perspective we are approaching to this year’s Al-Quds Day. In this Day, Muslims should open their eyes and take farsighted policy to stop all sorts of infighting and take a united step to eliminate the Zionist Israel and free the sacred land of Palestine including Al-Quds, our first Qiblah and open the way to establish the State of Palestine in the entire Palestinian Territory.
