Leader of the Opposition Raushan Ershad said a black chapter was added to the nation’s history through the killing of Bangabandhu and most of his family members on August 15 in 1975.
“Not only a statesman was brutally killed on August 15 but the dream for establishing a secular Bangladesh on the spirit of the Liberation War trampled,” she said in a message on Friday on National Mourning Day commemorating the 40th anniversary of martyrdom of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
Raushan Ershad said, “Bangabandhu had immense contributions to our history. The Bangalee nation achieved long cherished independence under his leadership. A change is required in our political culture to ensure the forward march of the movement led by Bangabandhu. All irrespective of political opinions should work together in the fields of the nation’s economic emancipation and prosperity to translate into reality Bangabandhu’s dream for building a golden Bangla (country).”
The Leader of the Opposition called upon the people of the country to place Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on his own esteem and above all controversies.
Paying deep homage to the martyrs of the August 15 mayhem, Raushan Ershad said, “The memories of the Architect of Independence Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and those martyrs of his family would remain everlasting.”
