A total of 98 poor families of Sadar upazila in the district got TK eight lakh financial assistance from Bangladesh Cancer Society (BCS), for repairing their houses damaged by the recent flood.
The assistance was disbursed among the poor under Post Flood House Repairing Programme being carried out under the supervision of Selima Khatun, former Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
A function was also held at the auditorium of Zila Shilpakala Academy (ZSA) of the town here this noon.
Selima Khatun, former Special Assistant to PM, formally distributed the financial aid among the selected flood affected poor people of the upazila.
Speaking on the occasion, Selima Khatun in her speech urged the beneficiaries to utilize the money so that their damaged houses are repaired properly for their safe habitation.
Senior Vice President of Bangladesh Awami League, district unit, Siddique Hossain Chowdhury, Assistant Commissioner, SM Foyez Uddin, Panel Mayor Tanzimul Islam Piter, Vice President of ZSA Mashiur Rahman, General Secretary Promotosh Saha, Member Rezaunnabi Razu and social worker Harurn-or-Rashid, were among others, present on the occasion.
Each of the beneficiaries received the financial support ranging from Tk 6000 to Tk 18,000 from the programme.
