A total of 9,154 mothers of seven upazilas of the district were brought under maternity allowance distribution activity of the government.
Department of Women Affairs under the Ministry of Women Affairs is implementing the activity in the district aimed at helping the poor mothers to remove their malnutrition problem for building a healthy nation.
By encouraging mothers to give birth only two children using family planning methods to keep their body healthy and fit and to check the population growth of the country is another objective of the allowance distribution.
This was disclosed by District Women Affairs Officer (DWAO) Most Shahnaz Akter in a monthly district development coordination meeting held at the conference room of District Collectorate Building here on Sunday with Deputy Commissioner (DC) Goutam Chandra Pal in the chair.
Shahnaz Akter said of the total, some 1,466 mothers were brought under the programme in Sadar upazila, 784 in Fulchhari upazila, 1,120 in Shaghata upazila, 1,008 in Palashbari upazila, 1,904 in Gobindaganj upazila, 1,640 in Sundarganj upazila and 1,232 in Sadullapur upazila.
Each of the mothers is getting Taka 500 per month from the government for the term of two-year and about Taka 5.50 crore is being distributed to the mothers as allowance per year, she added.
